Technical Support : CIBSE TM23 air leakage tests in the UK

In the UK, air leakage tests must be carried out in accordance with CIBSE TM23 on all buildings over 1000 m2 of gross floor area where construction began after April 2002. The TM23 standard requires a maximum allowable leakage of 10 m3/hr at 50 Pascal per m2 of envelope area. The Retrotec Model PW5E shown will test buildings with up to 2880 m2 of envelope area at a the maximum allowable amount of 10 m3/hr per m2 If the building is more typical and has been constructed tighter than this then this same model could test buildings of 10,000 m2 or more.

Using two systems with a total of 6 blowers in two doorways will double the size of building that can be tested. Retrotec software will handle up to 18 blowers yielding 48 m3/sec at 50 Pascal’s. Retrotec equipment, software and field training expertise are available immediately.

The Building Regulations (Conservation of Fuel & Power) which covers England & Wales has been finalized and published. All plans submitted for Building Control approval subsequent to April 2002 must comply with these new requirements.
